The Gentle of Men

It’s a collaboration 20 years in the making. A collision between art and fashion. A gallery opening. A launch party. And, yes, we’re doing it for the kids.

the gentle of men is the brainchild of life long friends artist John Arsenault and Andy Sälzer (Creative Director, Yoko Devereaux). The subject matter speaks directly to the difficulties of identifying as gay, especially as a young adult.

This series of 4 t-shirts is inspired directly by the work of John Arsenault. Specifically, from the work featured in Mr. Arsenault’s solo show opening January 6th, 2011 – “A Ghost is Occupying My Heart” at clampart gallery (Chelsea, NYC).

All proceeds from the sale of these t-shirts will go directly to the Trevor Project, an organization determined to end suicide among LGBTQ youth).

T-shirt graphics include ‘Your Ignorance Could Smother the World,’ ‘We Are All Your Kids,’ ‘Faggot’ and ‘A Ghost Is Occupying My Heart’.

“T-Shirt graphics continue to be an influential form of visual communication for me and my work. In this context, the imagery is all about solidarity. We wanted reinforce the message that ‘you are not alone’,” says Andy Sälzer.

“A large portion of my work is based around self portraits, which inherently includes my sexuality. If I can make the transition from gay youth to gay adult any easier for someone else, then I’ve succeeded,” says John Arsenault.
